So, a month ago when I went to my doctor I was prescribed birth control for health reasons (which is quite common), not necessarily to prevent pregnancy.
So that day, I took my prescription to my local CVS and had them fill my prescription.
When I was handed that package, It felt very light. I asked the pharmacist if my entire prescription was in there, she said that my prescription was for 3 months worth of pills, but that this was only 1 months worth. She said that I would need to refill my prescription at the end of each month...
I am new to the birth control scene, so I accepted her answer and left.
Now, a month later I am about to take my final few pills. In an effort to be proactive, I went into my CVS account online to refill my prescription and received this message:
"It is too early to refill this prescription. Please refill this prescription no sooner than July 20th, 2011."
I instantly call CVS pharmacy to rectify the obvious error. When a pharmacist answers the phone I very politely explain to her that there must be some mistake because I have in fact, only been given 1 month so far. She looked at my account on her computer and explained that according to their records they dispensed all 3 months worth last month. Here's how that went:
Me: WHAT?
Me: "NO, you did not. I only received ONE months worth and I am about to take my last pill. I NEED my new pack."
CVS: "I'm sorry ma'am, can you drive up here and bring your prescription receipt and your pack that you are on now?"
Annoyed, I said "sure" and drove 10 minutes to CVS.
What a waste of time,
When I got there, I handed everything over and she walked behind the counter. She then proceeded to go to the shelf and pull all the boxes of that particular brand off of the shelf and dump them out. I knew what she was doing...she was counting inventory.
I was thinking in my head "YES! This woman is smart and she is going to figure out that they screwed up my order. Thank goodness.
Little did I know that she would soon walk back over to me, hand me my prescription and my almost empty pack of pills, and say this:
"According to our inventory, we have the exact number we should have if we would have dispensed you 3 months worth. I'm sorry"
WHAT? She then proceeded to basically call me a liar to my face. So, where did those other 2 months worth of my pills GO? Did someone keep them for them self? I said "Look, thanks to my wonderful insurance(tricare) my prescription is only $9. I can assure you I have money and have absolutely no reason to lie to you."
She said "I'm sorry ma'am." and walked away!
I. WAS. FURIOUS.
Not only did she call me a liar, but she was completely unwilling to investigate the situation any further, nor rectify their mistake and give me what I paid for.
I normally don't make huge deals out of mistakes like this but I did NOT want to have to call my doctor and ask for a whole new prescription...
I stormed out of the store and as SOON as I got home, I called the MANAGER of the whole store. I asked him if there were security cameras behind the pharmacy counter. He said yes. I then explained the entire situation, and asked him if he would be willing to view the tape from that date and see that they only provided me with 1 month worth. He suddenly changed his tone and said that the cameras in the pharmacy are focused on the registers only and they don't capture what happens in the dispensing aisles. I find this really hard to believe. He assured me that the pharmacists were all very professional and well trained. This also made me mad because it seemed as though he also did not believe my story and had no beliefs that his pharmacists had made a mistake. Showing no interest in reviewing the tape, he ended the call and hung up.
So now I am PISSED.
Now I have to wait until Monday morning, call and bother my doctor and hope she will re-write my prescription.
I can assure you I will not be using CVS Pharmacy in the future.
